  • We created a software called PLYBOATS 2.01.This is a Computer Aided Design Software(Not CAD) for the design of small boats. This software provides many features and functions that greatly aid the small boat designer. You enter a minimal set of offset dimensions and it produces a group of Offsets graphics images that fully describe the hull, stations, plywood flat pattern layout, bulkheads and sail plan.

We are now offering PLYBOATS 2.01 at a 60% 0ff sale price of $48.75. This includes the S&H for USA and CANADA, Add $5.00 S&H for International. California Residents Pay $3.00 Tax. This includes PLYBOATS 2.01 on a Diskette and the 116 page manual. The manual is very useful for understanding and running the software and gives much help for design, modeling, CAD, etc.

The displacement, righting moments, Prismatic and Block coefficients are all calculated in the background. The software automatically recalculates every time a new change is made.

NOW OVER 30 HIGH SCHOOLS ARE USING PLYBOATS

A 33 foot steel tug type complete with fire pump and nozzle, has been built in St. Augustine, FL. The boat is used in the Luhr's yard to move yachts and for fire safety in the harbor. * Chesapeake Lightcraft uses PLYBOATS to design some of their line. Particularly the two double chine Mill Creek designs The Mill Creek design is currently being featured in Wooden Boat. It very closely resembles one of the example files provided in the software. It is reported to be a popular seller. * A company in Louisiana that designs oil island tenders, is using PLYBOATS to design a 200 foot OAL, 50 foot Beam, steel, diesel powered tender . They tried to use another software and gave up, now are usingPLYBOATS and things are moving along quickly. * The Staempfli-type sharpie using Windsurfer sails, shown in Wooden Boat, Number 134, page 107, is a Plyboats design. The designer -builder says it went together easily and it planes in a 5 knot wind. His method of mounting the windsurfer sails is unique. * Chuck Merrell's junk rigged T-Bird 2+, featured in the design section of Boatbuilder Magazine, September/ October, page 33 is a PLYBOATS design. Chuck has designed a few others and has commissions for more. There are many others. * A steam boat in Switzerland, catamarans in Australia, (One won a race), etc
Who are these 1000 users? The list includes many professional design facilities, boat shops, marinas and builders. A strong interest has been shown by steel and aluminum boat builders, Kayak builders and kit suppliers. There are many users in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. I have shipped copies into almost every country in the world. The metric dimensioning facilitates this and the English language has become universal to a surprising degree. The manual is very helpful; it is easy to read and has received many enthusiastic comments. "Best software manual ever", etc. The greatest percentage of users are amateurs and they have come up with some great designs. If you ever have had an idea for a boat, this is a great way to try it out. If you are an engineer, this software combined with design export to CAD is a great approach to yacht design. Try it! A great starting software for students, explore this and become familiar with marine design and then advance to more expensive software
PLYBOATS2.01 is an ideal introduction to computer design, CAD, etc. It is properly catergorized as a Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) software. It is currently being used in High Schools as an introduction to Engineering Drawing and CAD. Bridgeport High School, Connecticut, now has a 20 computer classroom setup. A similar setup is at the Sound School, New Haven, CT. There, they have each student design a boat in PLYBOATS, build a model, race and test these in a tank, then in following semesters, build full scale boats. CAD is used to complete the design. This is a painless way to get students into CAD and can very often lead them into technical course interest. The course introduces the student to the practical uses for computers instead of just Games. Boatbuilding incorporates many skills besides woodworking, hence develops broad interests. Some math, physics (displacement, balance of weights), strength and selection of materials, aerodynamics (sails) are all involved. In Connecticut, the course is also connected with teaching concern for the environmental impact on Long Island sound. Currently the software has been sold to over 20 schools and the response has always been highly enthusiastic. Students love it! It is also easy to get parents involved. I offer special pricing to educational facilities and students. Call, FAX, or Email for information regarding price or reference to teachers using the software. For students of Marine Design, I need proof of matriculation in a course. Schools, send a puchase order
